Introduction

Professor Hoi Fung Chau is a quantum information scientist working on various problems in quantum information and quantum cryptography.  His research is generally theoretical using rigorous mathematical proofs.  And occasionally, his study leads to very practical innovations.  One example is a recent patent on increasing the communication rate of satellite-to-ground classical and quantum communications that he has filed together with one of his former students.

Research Interests

Professor Chau's research interests include ways to increase the provably secure key rate in realistic quantum key distribution, security analysis of post quantum cryptography as well as fundamental limits on quantum information processing speed.
