Abstract:
Physical Review Letters and the other Physical Review journals of the American Physical Society embody its mission "to advance and diffuse the knowledge of Physics." The journals strive to select and publish physics research of the most innovative and the highest quality, and rely crucially on a fair and thorough peer review process to do so. The process needs scientists from all parts of the world, including China, to be responsible and active participants in it, both as authors and as referees. In this talk we will report briefly on the status of the journals and the recent remarkable growth of the Chinese representation in the journals. We will describe to you how the APS editorial operation works: how the editors assess new papers, choose referees and make decisions on papers. We will give some essential tips on how you can maximize your chances of publishing your work in the APS journals, and how you can get involved as a referee to make your scientific views heard and to give back to the international physics community from which you benefit.
We will also tell you about some recent developments within our journals, such as our online publication, Physics, and Physical Review Letters' recent effort to raise publication standards.
We look forward to a lively discussion with you about all these issues and more.
Coffee and tea will be served 20 minutes prior to the seminar.
