The structure of the pulsar magnetosphere via particle simulation in the case of aligned rotator

Speaker Prof. Shinpei Shibata

Date February 10, 2012 (Fri)
Time 4:00 p.m.
Venue Room 522, 5/F, Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building, HKU

Abstract:

After looking over the basic physics of the pulsar activity, I would like to pick up some difficulty in the standard picture of the pulsar magnetosphere, which include the polar cap model (PC), slot gap model (SG) and outer gap model (OG). It will be shown via particle simulation of the axisymmetric pulsar magnetosphere that a sort of dead zone is formed in the middle latitude, which we call "current neutral zone", This zone separates OG from SG. We also show how the pulsar wind is formed.

Coffee and tea will be served 20 minutes prior to the seminar.
