Debris Disks: A Path to Understanding the Origin and Evolution of the Solar System

Speaker Dr. Kate Su
Affiliation University of Arizona, USA
Date November 23, 2010 (Tue)
Time 4:00-5:00 p.m.
Venue Room 522, 5/F, Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building, HKU

Abstract:

Planetary debris disks can reveal many characteristics of other planetary systems and their evolution. In my talk, I will review recent studies of debris disks using Spitzer focusing on the following topics: 1.) debris disk behavior with age; 2.) signposts for massive planets beyond the ice line; 3.) systems that are the sites of recent large collisions or of episodes of a high level of dynamical activity among planetesimals; and 4.) planetary systems beyond the main sequence.

Coffee and tea will be served 20 minutes prior to the seminar.
