Abstract

Extended TeV gamma-ray emission (TeV halos) has been observed around some pulsars, which can be explained by the inverse Compton scattering between leptons from the pulsar outflow and the cosmic microwave background photons. This population of high energy particles is also expected to emit synchrotron radiation up to the X-ray energy range. However, no diffuse X-ray counterpart has been found for TeV halos. This has been attributed to very low magnetic field strength (less than a few μG) of the region. In this work, we propose a new model to consider small pitch angles between the particles and the magnetic field lines, so that little synchrotron emission is generated. We performed detailed modeling of the emission profiles and compare our predictions with observations of TeV halo candidates.
