Gauge Violation Spectroscopy in Synthetic Gauge Theories

Abstract

In synthetic gauge theory, fluctuations in gauge charges have led to a wealth of gauge violation physics, including the disorder-free localization, charge density wave (CDW) and exotic phase transitions. In this talk, I will introduce the gauge violation spectroscopy as a useful experimentally accessible measure in the gauge violation physics. We show that the gauge violation spectroscopy exhibits no dispersion because of the violation of the Gauss’s law. By calculating the massless Schwinger model analytically using the bosonization method and the quantum link model numerically, we further demonstrate the gauge violation spectroscopy is also a helpful tool to detect the confinement and deconfinement phases in the synthetic gauge theories. In the confinement phase, the gauge violation spectrum shows a delta function behavior, while in the deconfinement phase, the spectrum function has a finite width.
 

Biography

Wei Zheng received his Ph.D. from Sun Yat-Sen University in Guangzhou at 2012. From 2012-2019, He did his postdoctoral work at Tsinghua University, Cambridge University and Hong Kong University. In 2020, He joined University of Science and Technology of China (USTC), Hefei. He worked on the field of quantum many-body theories based on ultracold atoms. His current research interests include quantum simulation of gauge fields and non-equilibrium dynamics of ultracold quantum gases.
