Abstract

We propose an unconventional Nernst effect characteristic of twisted transition metal dichalcogenides (TMDC). Analogous to anomalous Hall effect which connects longitudinal input electric difference with transverse output electric field in the absence of external magnetic field, the anomalous Nernst effect is its thermoelectric counterpart where the transverse electric field is induced by longitudinal temperature difference without magnetic field. It has been established that the quantum geometry of band structure contributes to transport phenomena including Nernst effect, which can be observed in devices based on TMDCs, a member of two-dimensional (2D) materials family. Moreover, stacking monolayer 2D materials with different orientations in each layer to form twisted few-layer 2D materials generates a novel system with high tunability, desirable symmetries and new physics, attracting much attention to its thermoelectric effect. Here we intend to introduce a new type of anomalous Nernst effect in twisted TMDC system to get a quantum geometric response to both out-of-plane and in-plane electric field. It is expected that the anomalous Nernst effect will be enhanced and tunable.
