Abstract

With carrying non-Abelian topological charges, the real multi-bandgap systems push the boundary of conventional topological phase classifications. As the minimal sector of multi-bandgap system, real triple degeneracies (RTPs) lay the foundation of real topological phase studying. Characterized by Euler number, RTP also serves as real “Weyl points”. However, the experimental observation of RTP has not been reported. Also, the global band configuration consisting of multiple RTPs in crystals has not been studied. Here, we describe the RTP using Euler number and show its linkage with non-Abelian charge. We also experimentally observe the RTP in photonic meta-crystals. Furthermore, considering the triple degeneracy as the basic elements, we propose the non-Abelian topological compound. Just like chemistry compound, the topological compound consists of two types of RTPs. Their combining configurations are uniquely determined by symmetry and underlying topological constraints. We also find that there must be triple line degeneracies when topological phase transition happening between two topological compounds. Also, we explore the triple point and the Euler characteristic around zero energy. Effective modal is established and we found a PT protected nodal line structure stretching from gamma point which do not need other symmetries. The low symmetry allow more freedom of real space structure and band structure and may give to a rotating surface wave.
