Abstract

It is believed that some astrophysical systems have very low angular momentum gas accreting on a spinning black hole, such as tidal disruption events, long gamma-ray bursts and wind-fed high mass X-ray binaries. It is unclear whether such accretion flows can accumulate and trap enough magnetic fluxes in the inner region to launch the most powerful jets. The talk will give a computational perspective on the behaviour of magnetized Bondi-like accretion flow with no or very low angular momentum. 3D general relativistic magnetohydrodynamic simulations have been performed. I will present the models and the first results from the simulations. I will demonstrate that the initial gas angular momentum impacts whether the disk can reach the magnetically arrested (MAD) state, and stably launch powerful jets, although only a small threshold angular momentum is needed. Our results give plausible explanations for why jets can be produced from various astrophysical systems with slowly rotating accretion flows.
