Abstract

Aurora is so breathtaking that people are so fascinated by it. For decades, we have a deeper understanding of the earth's aurora, including its morphology and formation mechanism. Now more and more researchers focus on other planets, such as Jupiter and Saturn. To uncover the mystery of aurora, we need to figure out how the planetary magnetospheres work. Compared with the earth's magnetosphere, the understanding of planetary magnetospheres is still relatively lacking. Even if many planetary missions were launched, global simulations of planetary magnetosphere are necessary. Jupiter is our primary goal because there are some strange observational features of the Jovian aurora, which are inconsistent with classical theories. In this seminar, I will give a review of planetary magnetosphere and talk about some interesting findings that inspire us to do some specific simulations about the Jovian magnetosphere.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
