Abstract
Two-dimensional (2D) material has attracted intensive research attention due to their novel electronic and optoelectronic properties, such as diverse band structures in different phases of Transition-metal dichalcogenides (TMDs). Some TMDs can transform from indirect to direct band with decreasing number of layers. Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) is one of the commonly used methods to synthesize 2D materials. It has the advantage of precise thickness and doping control. Scanning Tunneling Microscopy (STM) is a powerful tool to characterize their structural and electronic properties. In this research, I shall focus on 2D material systems, the defects and Moire induced phenomena, as well as their heterostructures, using mainly MBE and STM/S. I hope to discover new properties in these 2D material systems.
