Abstract
This is an introductory workshop on Bayesian data analysis, aiming at students who may need data analysis for research in academia or industry. I will give a 1-hour overview on the basics of Bayesian statistics and the difference from frequentist analysis methods. This will be followed by a 2-hour hands-on session on analysing some simulated data. We will learn how to properly fit a line to data points and will get to know that we have probably misunderstood some of the statistical concepts before. No more reduced Chi-square and no more F-tests, because a single Bayes Theorem rules them all.
Participants should bring their own laptop and follow the instruction here https://hfdavidyu.github.io/post/hands-on-bayesian-data-analysis/ to install all the necessary software before coming to the hands-on session.
Coffee and tea will be served 20 minutes prior to the lecture.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
