Formation of Disks Around Low-mass Stars

Speaker Dr. Daniel Harsono

Date November 19, 2018 (Monday)
Time 4:00 p.m.
Venue Room 522, 5/F, Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building, HKU

Abstract

Accretion disks around young stars is crucial for the formation and evolution of the star. The disk also provides the sites for the formation of planets. The current picture is that the disk’s structure is set in the initial stages of disk formation. Yet, until recently, it has been difficult to study the initial stages of disk formation around low-mass stars. Interferometric imaging and modelling tools are needed to disentangle the newly formed disk from its surrounding envelope. I will present the current status of disk formation studies and its implications for star and planet formation.

Coffee and tea will be served 20 minutes prior to the seminar.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
