Dear colleagues, students, alumni, secondary school teachers and friends of the Department,
The four year curriculum has been running for more than five years now. The Department has recently conducted a review. We propose various changes in the physics major, physics minor and astronomy minor curricula to better serve our students and to cater their ever diversifying needs. If everything turns out right, the changes will be implemented in four phases beginning Sep 2018. (Roughly speaking, changes in first year level courses will begin in Sep 2018, second year level courses in Sep 2019, and so on.) The Curriculum Reform Consultation Document is available here.
In addition, we are going to conduct two sessions of consultation meetings. They will be held on 27 Oct (Fri) from 5:30pm to 6:30pm and 30 Oct (Mon) from 6:30pm to 7:30pm, both in Room 522, Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building. Please come to know more about our proposal and express your opinions.
You may also send in your views by 13 Nov (Mon) by email to physdept@hku.hk (subject: "Curriculum Reform Consultation") or regular mail. I am sure that your valuable opinions could make our curriculum better.
With best regard,
Prof M H Xie
Head of Physics Department, HKU
