Abstract

The two-dimensional (2D) materials have been the subject of intensive research in recent years with their fantastic properties in fundamental and practical study. Since the graphene can be mechanically exfoliated individually from bulk graphite using the scotch tape, various 2D monolayers have been synthetized, including the group-IV monolayers of silicene and stanene, the group-V monolayer of phosphorene, and the group-III monolayer ofborophene. Besides these groups elemental monolayers, alloy films have also been attracted much attention because they combined intriguing properties of each constituent. Recently, monolayer Tellurium (Te) has been suggested by a theoretical prediction as a new two-dimensional (2D) system with great electronic and optoelectronic promises. However, no fabrication of Group-VI elemental monolayer has been made. Thus, this investigation would mainly focus on ultrathin film growth of tellurium (Te), and further study of selenium (Se) and their alloy by molecular-beam epitaxy (MBE).

Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
