Abstract

Conductivity measurements is useful in providing information about the properties of exotic states of quantum matter. Although the conductivity of weakly interacting systems (electrons and cold atoms) are in general well understood, conductivity in a strongly interacting systems remains puzzling. In this regard, ultracold atom systems with many control parameters, including the number of atomic species, density, geometry and, in particular, the atomic interaction strength allows them to be powerful platforms for studying the conductivity in a neutral system.

The main focus of our research is to probe the optical conductivity in a harmonically confined ultracold Fermi gas which is also subjected to an optical lattice. Our preliminary results focus mainly on non-interacting systems and in future research, we will investigate the conductivity of strongly interacting fermi gases where novel quantum behavior is expected to occur.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
