Abstract

The Herschel-Heterodyne Instrument for the Far-infrared (HIFI) on board the Herschel Space Observatory provides high resolution spectra that reveals the physical and chemical properties of many circumstellar/interstellar environments. In particular, for the case of evolved stars such as the asymptotic giant branch (AGB) stars, many molecular line features (e.g. NH3, H2O, CO) originated from the circumstellar envelopes can be observed with unprecedented details. Our team in the Nicolaus Copernicus Astronomical Centre, in collaboration with the European Space Astronomy Centre, has started a project to build a database providing all reduced HIFI spectra of evolved stars observed in the Single-Point mode, together with information such as line identification and the corresponding spectral parameters. In this talk, I shall report on the first stage of the project, which involves developing a semi-automatic reduction procedure for handling the large amount of spectra.

Coffee and tea will be served 20 minutes prior to the seminar.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
