Abstract

The discovery of the Higgs boson by the ATLAS and CMS experiments were a mile stone for the Standard Model(SM), but it still leaves some open questions such as dark matter, and the unification of forces. Beyond the Standard Model scenarios, such as Super Symmetry (SUSY), serves as an extension for the Standard Model that can provide answers to these open questions.

One model that exhibits the principle of SUSY is the Minimal Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM). The research will focus on the Higgs sector of the MSSM where an additional Higgs doublet is predicted giving us a total of 5 higgs bosons. One SM like Higgs, 2 Heavy neutral Higgs, and two Charged Higgs. Obtaining an evidence of the existence of the heavy Higgs bosons is a good indication of SUSY.

The Higgs bosons are produced by proton-proton collisions in the Large Hadron Collider at 13 TeV center of mass energy, and would immediately decay into lighter and more stable particles, and are measured by the ATLAS detector. The Higgs events (signal events) can be mimicked by other background events such as the SM tt event, but the two events can still be distinguished by utilizing the kinematic variables of their final state particles. The current progress of the analysis is look for good discriminant variables that can distinguish the Higgs event from the background events.

The list of discriminating variables will be used as components for the multivariate algorithm, where each event will be used as the input and will have an output ranging from -1 to 1. The event will be identified as a signal event if the output is higher than the selected threshold.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
