Abstract

Conventional NEGF(non-equilibrium Green's function) technique dealing with transport properties of mesoscopic systems quite often makes use of the limited size of the transport region. By defining the center region as a quantum 'dot'(the name for small objects whose electron spectrum is discrete), we are allowed to write the real-space Green's function of the system as a finite matrix. Few recent papers have proposed another set-up for investigation of transport properties by changing the multiple semi-infinite electrodes to STM(Scanning tunneling microscope) tips. This is of physical interest because previous theoretical simulation indicates that such a set-up can increase the efficiency of locating, categorizing defects and studying transport properties of anti-dots on 'large' two dimensional material. In this report, a different computational technique designed for such systems will be introduced which can be proved to provide results that are more physical. We also report an observation of the effect of electron interference on transmission coefficient. More advantages and potential applications of this technique are also provided.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
