High-energy Astrophysics of the Sun: Problems and Prospects

Speaker Mr. Kenny Chun Yu NG
Affiliation The Ohio State University
Date April 15, 2016 (Friday)
Time 4:30 p.m.
Venue Room 522, 5/F, Chong Yuet Ming Physics Building

Abstract

The Sun is a high-energy astrophysical source due to secondary emissions from cosmic-ray interactions in the solar atmosphere. However, recent observations showed that the observed gamma-ray emission is much higher than previously expected. I will talk about the latest observational results, our current understandings on how the cosmic-ray interactions occur, prospects for future detectors, and lastly, the implication of these studies on dark matter searches from the Sun.

Coffee and tea will be served 20 minutes prior to the seminar.
Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
