Abstract

With the growth of population and changing lifestyles, our global energy demands is increasing dramatically. Due to the limited traditional fossil fuel resource and their impact on environmental pollution, it is necessary and urgent to pursuit sustainable energy alternatives, including both sustainable energy sources (solar cell) and green energy storage systems (lithium ion batteries). In both dye-sensitized solar cells (DSSCs) and lithium ion batteries (LIBs), metal oxide represents one of the most important part of the devices.

In this seminar, at first different metal oxide materials for LIB anode will be introduced. Through a dedicated nanostructure design of the metal oxide anode, we aimed to develop the LIBs with high capacity and stable performance. For example, the optimal morphology and crystal structure of TiO2 anode were investigated, and an in situ post treatment process was developed to further enhance the lithium storage. Moreover, in order to develop LIBs with high capacity, SnO2 based anode materials were investigated. Composite electrodes of tin and copper oxides on CNT matrix as well as graphene oxide wrapped SnO2 hollow sphere anodes were fabricated and studied. Then second, various ZnO-based working electrode for DSSCs will be discussed, and a solution treatment is introduced to further increase power conversion efficiency of ZnO-based DSSCs.

Anyone interested is welcome to attend.
