Abstract

In July 2012, the ATLAS and the CMS experiments at the European Organisation for Nuclear Research announced the discovery of a new neutral particle compatible with the expectations for the Higgs boson. The analyses dedicated to study this particle's properties have confirmed this compatibility. These studies played a crucial role in the motivation for the 2013 Nobel Prize in physics.

In this presentation I will briefly discuss the motivation for existence of the Higgs boson from the perspective of the theoretical framework known as the Standard Model, its discovery and the current status of the research on it in the Atlas experiment. I will put special emphasis on the measurements of the Higgs boson properties. Part of the presentation will be dedicated to the prospective Higgs studies planned in the near and long-term future.

Coffee and tea will be served 20 minutes prior to the seminar.
