Abstract

Galaxies are the building blocks of the universe. In modern astronomy, understanding how galaxies form and evolve in shape, size, brightness, mass, and spatial distribution is a major topic. Numerous observational and theoretical efforts have been made to investigate this issue. In this talk, I will introduce the idea about galaxy evolution and how astronomers observe it. I will also use a few examples to highlight how our understanding of galaxies (or the lack of it) can help (or hamper) our understanding of cosmology.

Coffee and tea will be served 20 minutes prior to the seminar.
