Introduction:

Condensed matter physics is one of the most active and also diversified areas of research in physics. This workshop will cover some of the most recent advanced topics in quantum phases of matters including the mechanism of high temperature superconductivity, the topological quantum computing, new physics of recently discovered graphene, quantum information, and advances in quantum simulations. The invited speakers of the Forum include a few dozen of world leading physicists from the US, Europe and Asia. There will be also several dozen of participants including young physicists and students from mainland China and Hong Kong.

Announcement:

We are pleased to announce that an international workshop entitled “Hong Kong Forum of Physics - Frontiers in Condensed Matter” will be held at the University of Hong Kong during 14-16 Dec. 2007. Condensed matter physics is one of the most active and also diversified areas of research in physics. This workshop will cover several advanced topics in quantum phases of matters including the mechanism of high temperature superconductivity, the topological quantum computing, new physics of recently discovered graphene, quantum information, and advances in quantum simulations. The invited speakers of the Forum include a few dozen of world leading physicists from the US, Europe and Asia. There will be also several dozen of participants including young physicists and students from the mainland of China and Hong Kong.

The Forum will be a part of annual activities of Center of Theoretical Computational Physics at the Univ. of Hong Kong to promote cutting edge sciences. The other activities the Center has recently organized or co-organized include “Hong Kong Forum in Condensed Matter Physics: Past, Present, and Future” in Dec. 2006, “International Workshop on Solid-State Quantum Computing” in June 2006, “Croucher Advanced Study Institute -- Science and Applications of Spin Electronics”, in August 2005, “Mini-workshop on strongly correlated systems” in Nov. of 2005.

Enquiries about the Forum please contact with Ms. Anna Wong at annaylw@hkucc.hku.hk.
